Hillary Vazquez

Visual Arts Teacher

Hillary (she/her) has been an art teacher since the early days of setting up "class" with her dolls and small whiteboard, showing them how to draw cartoon pandas. Since then she earned a BA in Visual Arts from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington and a MA in Education from DePaul University in Chicago. She has taught in many different settings from after-school programs to private art schools to her current position in Chicago Public Schools, from preschool age to adults to her favorite age: high schoolers. Her own artistic practice focuses on ceramic and textile arts, though watercolor has been a recent favorite as well. In the world of education, Hillary is passionate about how equitable grading practices can benefit both student and teacher to create more meaningful feedback through grading. She dreams of one day having her own ceramic studio and helping teach teachers how to teach more effectively. When not teaching or making art, Hillary is having dance parties with her two little kids.
