Lisa (Ana Elizabeth) Gutierrez

Artist & Educator

Born and raised in Chicago, Lísa Gutierrez is an artist, educator, and interventionist whose work explores themes of the natural world, identity, and culture. She earned her associate degree through City Colleges of Chicago, soon after her Bachelor of Arts and her Master of Arts degree from DePaul University.

Highly recommended by her AP high school art teacher, Gutierrez’ artistic career began with After School Matters where she was an artist apprentice. Inspiration for her paintings come from wildlife, shapes and the human body. Her art has a lush green feel of vibrant color which consists of floral designs, plants and animals alongside nonorganic geometric shapes. Although acrylic paint is often her medium of choice, over the years Gutierrez has acquired other mediums and has worked with fabrics, resin, clay, watercolor and digital media. Gutierrez has used her artistic skills to create logos for small businesses, school clubs and organizations.

In addition to her artistic practice, Gutierrez is also a dedicated educator. She is passionate about using art as a tool for social change and believes that art can be a powerful force for good in the world. She strongly believes art should be taught in a pedagogical way and truly believes art integration is the key to learning difficult subjects in schools. Gutierrez is currently an interventionist for Chicago Public Schools, working with elementary students. During the Summer she is a teaching assistant at Northwestern University helping to teach courses to gifted middle school and high school students but also has an administration background as well. Gutierrez is always looking to combine her passion for art and her love for education.
